Boost Retention and Performance of New Teachers

The Professional Growth Academy for Teacher Induction helps bridge the gap between new and experienced teachers by building the confidence, credibility and classroom fundamentals that new teachers need to survive and thrive.

The Professional Growth Academy from Pearson is a perfect fit for school districts that need to provide teachers with practical, quality professional development – aligned to district-specific needs – but don’t have all the in-house resources for a complete implementation.

The Pearson Teacher Induction Academy provides 29 weeks of facilitated online learning and practical application to help new teachers tackle the classroom management, organization and assessment challenges awaiting them in their first year.

A Connected Curriculum

Pearson’s Teacher Induction Academy features three 7-week modules that guide new teachers through complex challenges they’ll face in the first year, including:

  • Survival skills for developing credibility, organizing the classroom & managing parent and student expectations in “non-teaching” situations
  • Instructional methods and classroom management
  • Design and implementation of balanced assessment practices

Practical Application

Woven throughout the 29-week Academy is an action research project that promotes the practical application of learning in participants’ classrooms. The action research project is specified by you to address current district needs and individual teacher responsibilities.

The Teacher Induction Academy helps new instructors:

  • Establish the confidence, credibility and classroom fundamentals needed to succeed as a new teacher
  • Refine instructional methods to minimize classroom disruption and support pro-social behavior in the classroom
  • Design and implement balanced assessment practices in the classroom using knowledge of traditional assessments, performance assessments, portfolios, and conferences

Quality Content with Classroom Application

  • 21-weeks of graduate-level, credit-worthy content
  • Facilitation by experienced faculty members
  • Online cohorts with no minimum district enrollment
  • Practical application in the classroom
  • Eight weeks of follow-up support
